Dans le cadre de la semaine de la photographie, un RDV de la médiathèque exceptionnel !

La médiathèque s'abonne à un nouveau magazine, POLKA, centré sur la photographie et le reportage et profite de la venue de Dimitri BECK, directeur de la photographie chez POLKA (magazine, multimédia et galerie) à l'occasion de la semaine de la photographie, pour l'inviter à échanger autour du dernier numéro de POLKA, paru le 21 février dernier.
Dimitri Beck présentera une sélection de reportages commandés par POLKA ces derniers mois, notamment un photo-reportage réalisé à Bagdad, autour du tribunal de justice qui juge les djihadistes de Daesh et leurs proches.

La rencontre sera aussi l'occasion de discuter plus amplement du métier de directeur de la photographie.

Polka, lancé en 2007, est un trimestriel dédié à la photographie. Récits, reportages, enquêtes, rencontres, expositions, art… Polka ouvre en grand ses pages aux photographes.Et prend le temps de l’analyse pour donner du sens à l’information.

Média hybride et innovant, Polka est aussi une galerie de 300 m2, et une librairie de photographie, toutes deux situées au coeur du Marais, à Paris. Fondée en 2007 par Adélie de Ipanema et Edouard Genestar, la galerie Polka est ouverte au public, et expose de nombreux artistes, parmi les plus grandes signatures de la photographie (Marc Riboud, Sebastião Salgado, William Klein, Joel Meyerowitz…).

Dimitri Beck est directeur de la photographie de Polka (magazine+galerie+multimedia). Il est un des membres fondateurs de Polka aux côtés de la famille Genestar, depuis 2008. Auparavant, de 2004 à la fin 2006, il dirigeait l'agence Aina Photo à Kaboul. Il a participé à la formation d'une génération de photographes afghans et à sa promotion. Il était également rédacteur en chef du magazine bilingue français-anglais "Les Nouvelles de Kaboul / New Afghanistan". Dimitri a commencé sa carrière comme journaliste indépendant en 1998 et a souvent travaillé en Asie centrale et dans le Caucase.

Il intervient régulièrement lors de conférences sur le photojournalisme et donne des cours au département de journalisme de Sciences Po à Paris. Toutes les semaines, il tient une chronique radio sur la photo sur France Info.

During our Photo Week , a meeting with Dimitri Beck, director of photography of Polka.

 

The Romain Gary library now receive a new magazine, , POLKA, magazine of photography and reports.
Our librarians are glad to welcome Dimitri BECK, director of photography of POLKA (magazine, multimedia and gallery) for the Photo Week, for a talk about the last edition of Polka magazine, published this February, on the 21st.
Dimitri Beck will show a selection of reports, ordered and funded by POLKA these last months, included a photography report made in Bagdad, about the Court which judge the jihadists of Daesh and their relatives.

Polka magazine, launched in 2007, is a quarterly dedicated to photography. Reportage, documentary, exhibitions and art… Polka is wide open to the work of the photographers. And it takes the time of analysis to bring sense to the news and put it into perspective. Sold in newsstands and in specialized bookshops in France and abroad, Polka circulation is more than 30,000 (source OJD) per issue. And it also produces many articles on his website www.polkamagazine.com.

Hybrid and innovative media, Polka hosts also a gallery of 300 m2 and a bookstore, located in the heart of Le Marais quarter, central Paris, opened to the public. Founded in 2007 by Adélie de Ipanema and Edouard Genestar, Polka gallery runs several exhibitions, opened to the public, along the year with among the greatest names of photography (Marc Riboud, Sebastiao Salgado, William Klein, Joel Meyerowitz…

Dimitri Beck is the director of photography of Polka (magazine+gallery+multimedia), in Paris. As  part of the executive management since 2008, he has been contributing to the development of Polka.
Prior to work at Polka, he was the Director of the Aina Photo Agency based in the Afghan capital Kabul from September 2004 to December 2006, where he was also the Editor-in-chief for the Anglo-French feature magazine « Les Nouvelles de Kaboul – New Afghanistan ». Before he was working as editor-in-chief of Reza Deghati’s photo agency “Webistan”. His thirst to travel brought him especially in the Caucasus mountains and across Central Asia when he started out late 1990’s as an independent journalist filing reports to French and international media outlets.

During his spare time, Dimitri gives lectures on photojournalism at conferences and educational institutes such as photojournalism courses in the journalism department at SciencesPo in Paris and Speos photo school. He also hosts a radio programme about images on France Info and participates in international photo juries.
